Easter '06

Today we went to church to Bless the basket. Jessi and I assembled the basket this morning (she did most of the work!). It was her first time (mine too!) and tt turned out really well.

We were both really proud of it. She did a great job putting it all together.

The basket contains Paska (bread), Kubasa (sausage), Boiled Eggs (I was going to make up some Ukrainian word for that but Jessi smacked me...), Ham, Butter, Cottege Cheese and Butter and a Hryn (we're guessing on the spelling. It's horseradish mushed up with beets), and Pasynka (decorated eggs). The food gets layed out on tables formed into a cross and blessed by the priests Father Terry (he married us) and Father Steve (he's a vegetarian and was the butt of many jokes because his basket had no meat! Next year Jessi and I are going to do a meatless basket to make him feel better!). We're going to eat the basket food on Monday (tommorow we have a big family lunch with Tony's family). Then Monday night is a big Easter dinner with Gaby and Richard.
