Zippy turns one... Thousand!

Zippy passed a milestone earlier this week. He (we decided Zippy was a he because he's blue!) made it past the 1000 km mark. That's the end of the "break-in" period. Now we don't have to treat him like a little baby (although we probably will anyways!).

In other news, my birthday's coming up (June 1st FTW!). I'm looking forward to it. I've taken the Friday, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday off so I can play video games for several days straight! :) I also want to get some of the things around the house done.

Leo the cat has settled in to our routine quite well. He's a very pleasant cat and we're happy to have him stay with us for a while.

Jessi has started a new elimination diet to help with her arthritis. During the elimination period she stops eating any of the foods that may be bad for her condition. After several weeks she introduces foods again one by one testing her reactions to them. It's a very restrictive diet so we're hoping that she will be able to eat at least some of the foods again one day. Here's a list of some of the things she's given up:
  • Wheat/Gluten
  • Deadly Nightshades (tomatoes, potatoes, eggplant, peppers, etc)
  • Corn
  • Soy
  • Sugar
  • Preservatives & additives
  • Artificial sweeteners
  • Oranges & Grapefruit
  • Almonds & Peanuts
  • Dairy products
  • Eggs
  • Meat (this one was easy!)
  • Sulfates

I'm sure I've forgotten something but you can tell it's quite a restritive list. We've found that most stuff that shouldn't have something from that list has potato start, corn starch, sulfates (vinegar!), soybean oil or soysauce. That means that we're mostly confined to eating at home or bringing our own food when we go out. However, we did have a very nice meal at Fresh on Bloor by Juice for Life and we're probably going to Il Fornello's for my birthday. Gaby also managed to make some delicious biscuits that had sweet potatoes instead of eggs and frozen olive oil instead of butter. YUM! Mostly it means we're eating healthier and (aside from my birthday week) it's a change I think will stick.

It's yer birthday ... it's yer birthday ... we're gonna party like it's yer birthday ... unh hunh, yeah, party, yeah, unh hunh ...

Actually, on second thought, you'd really rather not hear me try to beatbox. But Jeff does a fine robot dance, so instead we dance in your honour. Have a great b-day month!
